About Northfold
We build small AI tools that hold up in daily use.
Northfold is a studio of four people working with small businesses on document reading, data structuring and workflow automation. We start with the work a team already does, then remove the parts a machine can do reliably.
Most projects begin as one narrow task: a stack of invoices, a weekly report, an inbox that never empties. We keep the scope small, measure what changed, and hand over something the team can run without us.
How we work
- 01
Start with the task
We watch the work before we change it. The first conversation is about the steps a person takes today, not about models.
- 02
Small releases
Every project ships in stages a team can use right away. A narrow tool in production teaches us more than a long specification.
- 03
Plain handover
Documentation is written for the people who will run the tool. We record the decisions, the limits and the failure cases in ordinary language.
- 04
Honest limits
Some work should stay with a person. When automation would be fragile or unclear we say so and suggest a simpler route.
A short history
- 2019
The studio begins
Marit and Tomas started Northfold with one client and a document sorting script that ran on a single laptop.
- 2021
An automation practice
We moved from one-off scripts to workflow automation and wrote the review process we still use today.
- 2023
Dashboards and reporting
Reporting grew into its own practice, built around the numbers clients actually check each week.
- 2025
Assistants in daily use
We began shipping internal assistants that answer from a company's own documents, with sources attached to every answer.
The people
Four people, one studio. Each project is run by the person who will also be there after the handover.

- IB
Ines Baumann
Data and reporting
Builds the dashboards and spends the first week of every project reading the source data.
- KO
Karl Osei
Design and research
Runs the interviews and tests every release with the people who will use it.
